Jason Hall, CEO of Greater St. Louis, Inc., issued the following statement encouraging the Missouri House to pass SB 51, a bill that would protect businesses from predatory coronavirus-related lawsuits.

Currently, Missouri businesses are vulnerable to predatory coronavirus-related lawsuits due to the lack of legal liability protection. Greater St. Louis, Inc. encourages the Missouri House to pass SB 51, a bill that would ensure employers who are operating in good faith are not targeted by opportunistic lawsuits. Without legislative action, these lawsuits could force businesses to close their doors or lay off employees, further extending the devastating impact of COVID-19 on our economy. SB 51 is a commonsense COVID-19 business liability bill that will protect hardworking Missouri businesses. We encourage the Missouri House to pass SB 51 without delay.

More than 1,000 COVID-19 lawsuits have been filed against employers throughout the country, according to the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Fourteen states passed COVID-19 business liability legislation in 2020, with more than a dozen states filing COVID liability protection legislation this year.
