With several major redevelopment projects and investment underway, Gateway Arch Park Foundation Executive Director Ryan McClure believes we’re seeing positive momentum in Downtown St. Louis. His recent op-ed in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch expresses optimism, opportunity, and very real movement.

More people are calling Downtown home, and community events are bringing in more visitors, proving that when public spaces are activated, people will show up. The Millennium Hotel project and improvements to Kiener Plaza and other major corridors also mark the beginning of a new era for Downtown.

The Bottom Line

“Twenty-five years from now, we will look at this moment the way we look back at the late 1990s. They’ll see this as the period when the foundation was laid for something much larger,” wrote McClure. “The future is not guaranteed, but neither were the events, destinations and amenities we enjoy now. We did it together and now we should take pride in being home to one of the only urban national parks, amazing greenspaces, and world-renowned attractions that just need to be better connected to each other.”

From small activations to large investments in critical real estate, continued collaboration and investment are guiding growth for Downtown St. Louis.
