Since 2001, St. Louis’ top civic and academic leaders have worked to coordinate the region’s development as a center for research and commercial activity in the plant and medical sciences. These efforts have culminated in the formation of BioSTL (http://biostl.org), dedicated to fostering research and commercialization through investment and collaboration. Today, the metro’s bioscience, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing sectors are all moving in tandem to advance cross-sector innovation and shape St. Louis into a global hub for pharmaceutical development and manufacturing. The pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing industry includes 60 businesses employing 4,000 in greater St. Louis, part of the larger biosciences industry that employes more than 15,000.
