Stereotaxis, a manufacturer of robotic surgical systems, was founded in St. Louis in 1990. Today it is a publicly traded leader in minimally invasive robotic surgery with over 100,000 patients treated.

Other global medical device companies have operations in the St. Louis region, including Bausch & Lomb, Biomerieux, Kindeva, and Zeiss.  Zeiss recently announced a $24 million expansion of its research and production facility here.
