Arch Expansion Takes Shape

Thanks to bistate and bi-partisan cooperation, Downtown’s Gateway Arch National Park is moving forward plans to expand. Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski and Congressman Wesley Bell this week joined local leaders from St. Louis and East St. Louis and representatives from the Gateway Arch Park Foundation to discuss legislation that would revise the park’s boundary to include land in East St. Louis, Illinois.

The Bottom Line: A group of bipartisan legislators from both Missouri and Illinois, along with public and private leaders, are intentionally working together to move this plan — part of part of architect Eero Saarinen’s original vision — forward.

“Never have we made such progress on achieving this dream of many civic leaders who have come before us,” said Ryan McClure, executive director of the Gateway Arch Park Foundation. “This is a shining example of collaboration at its best.”
