St. Louis Food Scene Basks in National Spotlight

From high end cuisine to countertop favorites, St. Louis restaurants continue to make a big name for themselves.

The James Beard Awards, perhaps the most prestigious culinary honors in the country, have recognized a list of St. Louis chefs and restaurants as semifinalists in this year’s awards. Some, like Vicia, are returning favorites. Others, like Robin — which was named one of America’s best by the New York Times last year — and El Molino del Sureste, are new to the list, representing continued culinary innovation and growth.

At the same time, Yelp announced four St. Louis-area restaurants on their Top 100 Places to Eat in 2026, a list based on reviews by community members. These fan favorites include Songbird, Telva at the Ridge, Blues City Deli, and Polite Society.

The Bottom Line

Whether it’s art, music, or food, St. Louis holds its own. Our chefs shine. Our food is innovative. And even when it’s a deli sandwich you crave, ours are some of the best in the country.

“I’ve always believed Vicia holds a special place in the national dining conversation,” said Tara Gallina, who co-owns Vicia with her husband Michael. “Traveling to other cities consistently reinforces my appreciation for St. Louis and for what our team creates here every day. Having that work acknowledged by the James Beard Foundation on a national level is truly humbling.”
