Greater St. Louis, Inc. Interim CEO Dustin Allison issued the following statement regarding St. Louis County Proposition B, a proposition on the April 8, 2025, ballot that would further politicize St. Louis County government by allowing the County Council to fire key county employees:
“The mission of Greater St. Louis, Inc. is growing the St. Louis region. At a time when the region needs common-sense solutions to reduce barriers to growth, Proposition B is a distraction.
“The heads of county departments, like public safety and health, should be selected because of their expertise in their fields, not because of politics or political connections. Similarly, they should be retained or terminated based upon their performance on the job, not because of political bickering and infighting.
“Proposition B would expose subject-matter experts in complex professions to the whims of county council politics and hang a cloud over the head of any qualified person looking to serve the citizens of St. Louis County. We need the best and most qualified people to manage St. Louis County government, and it will become much harder to recruit them if Proposition B passes.
"For the region to grow and prosper, it must have strong public servants who know how to work together. At a time when we need the best minds working to return our region’s most populous county to growth, political games slow our progress. As the voice of the St. Louis region’s business community, Greater St. Louis, Inc. expresses our strong opposition to Proposition B and encourages St. Louis County voters to cast a ‘no’ vote April 8.”
