Today marks the one-year anniversary of St. Louis reestablishing globally connectivity via nonstop service to Frankfurt, Germany, on Lufthansa. Led by the business and civic communities and regional elected leadership, the inaugural flight to and from Frankfurt was at capacity. And one year later, the flight continues to see strong support in both directions.
“What took off last year was more than a flight, it’s a connection for our people, our culture, and our economy to the international community,” said Jason Hall, CEO of Greater St. Louis, Inc. “And after one full year of global connectivity on Lufthansa, our connection is only getting stronger.”
Until the inaugural flight on June 1, 2022, St. Louis was the largest American market without non-stop service to Europe; the last non-stop flight from St. Louis to continental Europe was on TWA to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris in September 2001.
St. Louis companies and organizations that partnered to improve the region’s global economic competitiveness and help secure the flights include: Centene, Emerson, Enterprise Holdings, Inc., Greater St. Louis, Inc. Hermann Companies, Hunter Engineering, Nestlé Purina PetCare, St. Louis County Port Authority, St. Louis Lambert International Airport, the William T. Kemper Foundation, and World Trade Center St. Louis.
