Visual Arts
When you think about the arts in St. Louis, you might think first about our world-class institutions, like the St. Louis Art Museum, the Contemporary Art Museum or the Pulitzer Arts Foundation. But if you dig deeper, you’ll discover a thriving local arts scene, with individual artists, galleries, and districts adding robust color and texture to our visual arts community. Visit a thought-provoking exhibit at the Luminary, the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum or the Grand Center Arts District, for example.
Performing Arts
Our performing arts community is equally robust. We are home to one of the largest professional nonprofit African American theatre companies in the nation — the Black Rep — and America's oldest and largest outdoor musical theater — the Muny. During its 2022 Festival Season, the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis will present 33 world premieres, among the highest percentages of any company in the United States.
The Fabulous Fox offers a bustling big-ticket theater scene. Stages St. Louis will serve as a gateway to Broadway, hosting big-name shows before their Broadway debuts. The Rep curates both new works and beloved classics. And smaller stages of all sizes round out the region’s theater scene.
Music
Music has long pulsed at the heart of the Greater St. Louis region. We’re the home of the blues and the National Blues Museum. Our Grammy Award-winning St. Louis Symphony Orchestra has always been one of the world’s preeminent orchestras with a distinctive commitment to community outreach and education. Jazz St. Louis is the center for jazz performers, education and community engagement, and their Ferring Jazz Bistro has earned praise from artists and patrons alike as one of the best listening rooms in the country.
So much of what happens here is collaborative, with organizations, individuals, and a robust philanthropic community striving to support creative expression. Explore all that we have to offer.
