This Monday, June 19, Greater St. Louis, Inc. will join others in our community and across the country to honor Juneteenth — which commemorates the day in 1865 on which enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received word of the Emancipation Proclamation.
While that proclamation enshrined the promise of equality, we know that over 150 years later, there is much, much work left to do to achieve the full potential of its promise.
As the voice of the St. Louis metro’s business community, our work is guided by the north star of inclusive economic growth, so that someone’s race or the zip code in which they were born do not determine the opportunities and outcomes that lie before them. Greater St. Louis, Inc. will close our offices this Monday, June 19, to give our team time to reflect on the meaning of the day and the work that lies ahead of us to advance inclusive economic growth and to celebrate Juneteenth at one of the many events planned across the St. Louis region in the coming days.
We thank you for your continued commitment to this work and appreciate your partnership in moving our metro forward.
Sincerely,
Jason R. Hall, Chief Executive Officer
Valerie E. Patton, Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, President, Greater St. Louis, Inc. Foundation
