To showcase St. Louis’ geospatial ecosystem and help the broader community see the positive impacts geospatial professionals and technology are creating, GeoFutures — the initiative of Greater St. Louis, Inc. working to advance St. Louis’ geospatial ecosystem — will celebrate St. Louis Geography Awareness Week (GeoWeek) Nov. 13-17.
To kick the week off, GeoFutures will host a GeoWeek 2023 Open House from 1 – 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at the Post Building at 900 North Tucker Blvd. (enter at 1191 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, just East of N. Tucker). The Open House will unveil the synergy between geospatial technologies — such as GPS, remote sensors, and satellites — and the transformative powers of 3D visualization, AI, and machine learning. The event will also highlight how companies, innovators, government partners, and educators are using real-world applications of geospatial technology.
“The growth of the geospatial ecosystem in St. Louis continues, and GeoWeek is the perfect time to celebrate the people and businesses that have helped make St. Louis the nation’s center for geospatial technology,” said Andy Dearing, GeoFutures Project Lead.
At the GeoWeek Open House, attendees can look forward to:
- Engaging demonstrations highlighting how geospatial technology actively contributes to national security, food security, climate change mitigation, disaster response, urban planning, supply chain resilience, public health improvement, and social equity advancement.
- Exploring various exciting geospatial career opportunities and discovering education and training programs that can set you on the path to success.
- Uncovering how geospatial technology is driving competitive advantages across diverse industries, revolutionizing the way we do business.

GeoWeek, established in 1987 by presidential proclamation, aims to raise awareness about the significance of geography, environmental issues, and spatial understanding. It encourages people to explore the world around them and appreciate the interconnectedness of global issues. It has become an annual tradition for educators, students, and geography enthusiasts to celebrate and explore the world through geography. The national theme for GeoWeek 2023 is “The Power of Place.”
