St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones has signed into law legislation that will expedite the transformation of St. Louis Lambert International Airport. The legislation, Board Bill 201, authorizes the use of Construction Manager At Risk to procure major components of design and construction for the new single terminal airport transformation. CMAR is also critical to controlling costs and accelerating the timeline of the new terminal project.
Greater St. Louis, Inc. issued the following statement applauding the enactment of CMAR legislation:
“Transforming our airport is a top priority for St. Louis’ business community. Constructing a world-class terminal is one of the most important steps we can take to drive economic growth and outpace other regions in the hunt for new jobs and investment.
“By signing this bill into law, Mayor Jones will help bring to St. Louis the world-class airport we deserve, a facility that provides a better traveling experience for the people who live, work, and visit our metro; that will drive inclusive economic growth; and ensure that we can compete with other cities for jobs and new investment.
“We also wish to thank Alderman Shane Cohn for securing passage of this legislation in the Board of Aldermen.”
Background
Greater St. Louis, Inc. recently released a study showing that St. Louis Lambert International Airport could add nearly $5 billion in annual economic impact and support nearly 30,000 new jobs in the metro by 2032. The increased impact would result from significant growth in the metro’s aerospace manufacturing industry led by The Boeing Company’s investments on and adjacent to the airport campus and from increased traffic through a new, state-of-the-art terminal.
